Looking for something fun to do, but can’t bear to face the 405 and want to do something close to home and FREE. We hear you and have created a list of top five FREE things to do in Culver City.

Ballona Creek Bike Path – This breezy path has coastal access and can take you all the way to LA. It does take you past some tough neighborhoods and some of the path is a bit bumpy. It is open to pedestrians, bikers, joggers and roller bladers and provides a scenic path far removed from 405. Heading to the ocean can be breezy, but heading away gives you a nice push. We suggest that you bike with a group and avoid this path at night.

Farmer’s Market – If you have a bit of time on a Tuesday, head down to the Farmer’s Market located in downtown Culver City’s Main Street from 2 to 7 pm. The market is open year round and showcases local produce, locally sourced products, arts & crafts and food vendors.

The Lion Fountain – Be as carefree as the eight foot bronze lion sculpture located on Main Street downtown. Skip through the lighted jets that shoot streams of water into the air and dance with the lion.

Culver Hotel – While you are downtown (and probably before you dance with the lion), take in historic Culver Hotel. This 1920’s hotel is rich in history and something you probably have driven by hundreds of times. Why not venture inside and be transformed back to the Roaring 20s; partake in Happy Hour or try their restaurants or spend a night enjoying live music.

(The Wizard of Oz was filmed in Culver City and much of the cast including all 124 little people stayed at the Culver Hotel)

Sony Pictures Studio – now that we have thrown a piece of Culver City trivia your way, why not find out what other famous movies were filmed here in Culver City. Check out Sony Pictures Studio for a two hour tour. The tours run Monday through Friday and are $40 a person. Tour times are 9:30 am, 10:30 am and 2:30 pm.
