As Halloween approaches our thoughts turn to ghosts and spirits and our fascination with the paranormal, but did you know that Culver City and the surrounding area has a rich ghostly history?
We can start here with the Culver Hotel. Stop in to the downstairs bar and share spirits with, well Spirits. Ghosts roam the hallway and spook guests. Many have said that they have heard sounds and seen orbs when visiting the hotel.
The hotel was built by Culver Studios and much of Gone With the Wind was filmed there. The story is legendary and the ghost may just be that of Thomas Ince who was shot and killed by William Randolph Hearst who was trying to shoot Charlie Chaplin who he thought was having an affair with his Mistress, Marion Davies.
As it is Halloween Sunday, the subject of ghosts and all things spirit-based has been coming up in conversation. I’ve always been fascinated by the paranormal, probably because I played with too many Ouija boards as a child.
Others say that the Doris Bither House on 11547 Braddock Drive, the basis for the movie “The Entity” is also haunted. Miss Bither was proposed to be mistreated and she reaches out to visitors who were also mistreated.
Culver Studio is also known to have paranormal activity.
Ghost hunters and those who believe in the Paranormal say that La Ballona Restaurant, Brunello Trattoria and Gyenari are also haunted.
