Why You Should Do a Move Out Walk Through

  |     |   Apartment Living in Culver CIty

Moving is a hectic time and the last thing you want to worry about is your security deposit, but it is a lot of money (typically a month’s rent) and for most of us, we need this for our next lease. So getting it back is important.

One way to help the odds of getting a full deposit is to arrange a move out walk through at least one (two or three is better) day before your lease ends.

By arranging a walk through with your leasing agent before you lease ends, you can ask for (or create your own) check off list. If there are items that would be deducted from your full deposit refund, your leasing agent or land lord can identify them.

Document the walk through and make any repairs, updates, cleaning that are required BEFORE your lease ends. Ask the agent to return for another walk through.

After the walk through ask the agent when you should expect your refund..  Make sure that they have your forwarding address and document your walk through via email.

This walk through will help ensure that you receive as much of your security deposit as you are owed.
