Fun Labor Day Activities in Culver City

  |     |   Apartment Living in Culver CIty

Fall doesn’t officially begin until September 22nd, but for many of us, Labor Day marks the end of summer.  If you are looking for things to do this Labor Day Weekend you don’t have to go far, here are 5 tips close to your Culver City apartment.

1) Visit a Museum

  • The Museum of Jurassic Technology
  • The Wende Museum
  • Culver City Historical Society

2) Go Wine Tasting

  • Malibu Wine Safari Head to Malibu Wine Safari to combine tasting local wines and seeing wild animals.
  • Bar & Garden – Stop into Bar & Garden for a large selection of wines, knowledgable staff and wine tasting. (6142 Washington Blvd, Culver City)

3) Rent Kayaks

Nothing says summer like being on the water.  Why not rent a kayak or a paddle board and head down to Marina del Rey.  Marina del Rey is one of the many water rental spots in town.

Want even more adventure, why not try a hover (fly) board, check out their website for more details or call for more information.

4) Catch a Movie

One of the best Labor Day weekends I ever had was years ago when my friend and I did a Movie Marathon.   Back then the movies were Out of Africa, The Breakfast Club (classic) and Witness.  Today’s top flicks are:  Mad Max, Jurrasic Park, Straight Outta Compton, Train Wreck and Inside Out.  The Arc Light Theater in Culver City has all of these blockbuster hits.  Don’t just take in one movie, make it a movie marathon weekend by seeing one each day or like I did years ago, put on your grubbies, buy some popcorn, soda and dots and see three movies one right after the other.

 5) Host a Game Night

Invite your friends or find a kid friendly game (or two) and have a game night.

Game night is an ideal way to entertain that includes a little bit of healthy competition and lots of laughter, fully unplugged from the electronics that seem to run our lives lately. rental sites at a

One way to make your game night stress free is to make it a pot luck.  Ask your friends to bring easy to eat food.   Since your guests will be busy playing the games, food choices should stand up to not being heated or cold or served in a dish that allows heating.

Make space for your game night by setting up a table or clearing off your dining or coffee table.  Make sure there are enough chairs for everyone who wants to play.  You can purchase inexpensive fold up chairs or ask guests to bring a folding chair.  Another option is to go chairless and arrange pillows near a coffee table.  The key is that everyone who participates should have access to the game.

Select two or three games to play.  Ask your friends what their favorite game is or choose games that are kid friendly.  In our house we love Apples to Apples, Pictionary, Taboo and Quidler.  If you are playing Pictionary be sure to have a space that is large enough for others to see the drawing.  We have a white board and easel when we play, but you can also purchase large self-stick wall easel pads from Staples.

Enjoy your Labor Day and share other fun things to do in and around Culver City.
